Millennium Recycling Celebrates 25 Years

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., April 11, 2024 – This month, Millennium Recycling, Inc. celebrates a significant milestone – its 25th anniversary. Since its establishment in 1999, Millennium has emerged as a pioneering force in the recycling industry, processing approximately 100 million pounds of recyclables annually from communities spanning South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and beyond.

Over the past quarter-century, Millennium has continuously pushed boundaries to propel recycling initiatives in the Midwest forward. Through strategic investments in cutting-edge technology and equipment, the development of innovative community outreach programs, and forging partnerships nationwide to broaden accepted recycling categories, Millennium has maintained its position at the forefront of this dynamic industry, pioneering change in the region.

Reflecting on the journey, Shannon Dwire, President of Millennium, emphasized, “Our mission has always been clear: to divert materials from landfills, foster local economies, and pave the way for a sustainable future for our communities. We’ve faced challenges along the way, but thanks to the dedication of our employees, and the support of our customers, we’ve consistently remained ahead of the curve.”

Millennium’s commitment to quality has distinguished it from other material recovery facilities. By consistently meeting or exceeding stringent quality standards for recyclables, the centrally located company has cultivated strong relationships with end users, predominantly in the Midwest, enabling it to weather the fluctuations of the global marketplace.

Owner and CEO Jake Anderson underscores the necessity of continual improvement, stating, “In an ever-evolving recycling landscape, embracing technology, nurturing partnerships, and expanding services are paramount to maintaining operational efficiency and relevance for the long term.”

Continuing their dedication to innovation, Millennium has expanded and adapted its services over the years. Notable achievements include:

  • Implementation of AI robotics to enhance recycling efficiency and affordability, ensuring long-term sustainability.
  • Pioneering initiatives such as Single Stream Recycling and E-Waste Recycling in South Dakota.
  • Expansion of the Second Chance Employment Program, collaborating with multiple organizations to facilitate workforce reintegration for individuals facing challenges.
  • Launching and ongoing support for BINfluencer, a nonprofit focused on waste diversion education.
  • Strong community partnerships with local waste haulers to meet recycling goals.
  • Expansion of recycling categories through equipment upgrades and national partnerships.

To commemorate their 25th anniversary, Millennium has launched a robot naming contest for grades K-5 in the region, with submissions due by April 12. More details are available at recyclerobots.com. Additionally, the company has planned a month-long series of activities to express gratitude to customers and employees for their years of support. A public scavenger hunt will take place the weekend leading up to Earth Day, April 19-22, with details available on their website at millenniumrecycling.com/earthday.

As Millennium Recycling looks back on 25 years of success, they extend their heartfelt thanks to the community and eagerly anticipate many more years of collaboration and progress.
