Yes, we know, this seems obvious, but unfortunately we see so much of it at our facility we have to say it: PLEASE KEEP HUNTING WASTE OUT OF YOUR RECYCLING BIN.
With South Dakota hunting season in full swing, many people are disposing of animal carcasses, ammunition and other non-recyclable hunting waste.
Ammunition: When ammo gets dumped in a trash bin, recycling bin, or compacted in a garbage truck, it could cause the cartridge to fire, sending the bullets in a potentially dangerous direction. For the safety of our staff and your waste hauler, do not put spent or live ammunition in your recycling bin. Spent or live ammunition can go to the Sioux Falls Household Hazardous Waste facility for free.
Animal Carcasses: Not only is it disgusting to find an animal carcass in the recycling pile, it is also a health hazard to the people who have to sort it out. Deer or antelope carcasses are free to area residents to dispose of at the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill if under 10 carcasses, for businesses or any other animals, check with the landfill for rates.
Thank you for thinking of the people who work at the recycling facility and keeping animal waste and ammo OUT of the recycling bin.
