Stringy Stuff- Keep it Out!

posted in Recycling Rules by

If it’s stringy…no matter what it is, keep it out of your bin.

Stringy things get caught in our equipment and force us to shut down the entire line to get it out – wasting time and damaging our equipment.

So what classifies as “stringy” stuff and what should you do with it instead?

Stringy Stuff to KEEP OUT OF RECYCLING BIN:

  • Garden Hoses (Donate for re-use or throw away)
  • Metal Wires (Bring to a scrap dealer who specializes in metal, like TJN)
  • Electronics Cords (Bring to the Household Hazardous Waste facility for Recycling)
  • Power Cords (Bring to the Household Hazardous Waste facility for Recycling)
  • Rope (Reuse or throw away)
  • Holiday String lights (Bring to the Household Hazardous Waste facility for Recycling)
  • Ribbon (Reuse for crafts or other gifts)
  • Yarn (Reuse or throw away)
  • Garland (Reuse or throw away)
  • Tinsel (Reuse or throw away)
  • Scarves/Any Fabric (Donate for re-use or throw away)
  • Shoe Laces (Donate for re-use or throw away)
  • VHS Tapes (Bring to the Household Hazardous Waste facility for Recycling)

Thanks for recycling and check out our simple recycling search tool to find local options for everything you can’t put in the single stream bin.
