Stringy Stuff- Keep it Out!

posted in Recycling Rules by

If it’s stringy…no matter what material it’s made of, keep it out of your recycling bin.

Stringy things get caught in our recycling equipment and force us to shut down the entire line to get it out, wasting time and possibly damaging our equipment. So what classifies as “stringy” stuff and what should you do with it instead?

Stringy Stuff to KEEP OUT OF RECYCLING BIN:

There’s one exception to this list: Shredded Paper. Although it is technically “stringy”, if properly bagged separately in a clear bag and tightly tied shut, it can be included in your recycling bin. When it’s secured in a bag we can grab it off the line before it has a chance to gum up any equipment.

Thanks for recycling and check out our simple recycling search tool to find local options for everything you can’t put in the single stream bin.
