Candy Wrappers are Not Recyclable

Recycling Rules

Can you recycle candy wrappers? No.

Why Not: Candy wrappers are extremely difficult to recycle because of their size, weight and material mixture.

What To Do Instead: The most convenient option is to throw your wrappers in the trash, but another option is to try Terracycle’s Zero Waste BoxesThese are meant to collect hard to recycle items like candy wrappers and chips bags that can be sent in and made into up-cycled products. The only catch is there is a cost to the program- but if you can get some friends to chip in and collect together, it might be worth it.

“Americans consume more than 7 billion pounds of candy per year. That’s enough to fill 60 USS Iowa battleships full of sugary sweets.”
