This May, Millennium Recycling is once again participating in Recycling in Action, a nationwide initiative led by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR).
The goal is simple: give people a chance to see how recycling actually works.
Last year, the program brought together 36 facilities across the U.S., hosting more than 150 tours and reaching over 2,100 people. The feedback was clear:
- 96% of participants said the tour was excellent
- 85% said recycling worked better than they thought
- 74% left confident their materials would get recycled
- 70% felt more confident in their ability to recycle correctly
That’s what happens when people see the process firsthand.
How We’re Participating
Rather than hosting special open house events, Millennium is opening our existing facility tours to the public throughout the month of May.
If you’ve ever been curious about what happens after something goes in the recycling bin, this is your chance to come see it in action.
All tours follow our standard format and guidelines.
What to Expect
Facility tours include:
- A presentation explaining how recycling works and why it matters
- A guided walk through the Material Recovery Facility (MRF)
- Time for questions and discussion
You’ll see how materials are sorted, what causes contamination, and how your everyday recycling decisions impact the system.

Why It Matters
Recycling only works when people understand it.
There’s a lot of confusion around what happens after materials leave the curb. Seeing the process in person helps connect those everyday actions to what’s happening behind the scenes.
As one tour participant shared:
“We saw how recycling is for the community, but we need to work together to ensure that the system can work effectively.”
That’s the purpose of Recycling in Action—building confidence through transparency.
Schedule a Tour
If you’re interested in visiting during May, we encourage you to schedule a tour and experience the process for yourself:
Recycling is happening every day—and this is your opportunity to see it up close.
