Yes! Textbooks can be recycled, but be careful which type you toss in the bin. Hard Covered books are not allowed in your curbside bin. They cannot be properly sorted out by the system because of the hard cover and binding which can get stuck in the recycling equipment or worse, hurt one of our employees.
For Hard Cover books, you can drop them off for free at the Millennium Recycling office, we’ll even help you unload! Our entrance is on the South side of our building. When you get to our facility, you’ll see the big green public drop box, keep going around the building, past the big truck weight scale, and around to the center of the building. You’ll see our office doors where we will be eagerly waiting with a smile to help you unload your hardcover books and keep them out of the single stream and out of the landfill! No appointment necessary, just stop by during our office hours M-F 8:30am-4:30pm.
For Soft Cover books, those can go right in the single stream– but only if you have less than 10 at a time! Our recycling equipment will sort these out with the paper and they will get baled together and ready for further processing. If you have 10 or more, please follow the same guidelines as hardcover books. Check out our awesome process here!
